We made it to number 3 authors of the day! Woot Woot. Let’s see what goodies she sent me to share 🙂
Author: Christa Paige
Book: Mated in Treason, Book 1 of The Kan Asma Vampires
Genre: Paranormal Romance (Vampires)
When the royal vampire bodyguard ended up in her hospital bed after an explosion left him in critical condition, Nadia tried to warn herself not to fall in love with him. After all, she’s no vampire Cinderella, and happily-ever-afters didn’t happen to low-born females of the Kan Asma vampires. But her heart wouldn’t listen, and soon she wanted to claim Gunnar as her forever mate, even if it meant taking him the only way possible, as a husband in a disgraceful human ceremony.
Gunnar fell in love with his nurse the moment he saw her smile. He yearned to claim her as his, but the Mating Council has denied him the right to unite his powerful blood with a female from a poor family. The penalty for an unsanctioned mating is a death sentence. He doesn’t fear the consequences of making Nadia his, but the high probability of genetic incompatibility, means hid blood-bond might kill her. Losing her would be worse than torture. He has to find a way to make her his, irrevocably.
Their only hope lies with the treasonous Faction hell-bent on destroying the very people Gunnar calls family. Determined to find a way to be mated, Gunnar seeks out the leader of this hidden uprising. Together, Nadia and Gunnar must break the sacred laws of their vampire culture to become bonded for life. They will stage a dangerous infiltration of the Faction, because they’ll do anything to be together, even if it means being mated in treason.

Gunnar’s hand shot out and speared into her hair. He fisted the thick tendrils and pulled her back, right in front of his face. She’d see his fangs all right, if he showed her his current physical state, but he kept his yap shut, wishing he knew what was up with his fucking genetics. He’d never lost control before this. Hunger and rapid healing must be screwing with his head.
She squirmed and pulled against his tight hold. “Gunnar, please.”
Squeezing his eyes shut, he tried to breathe, to get some oxygen into his body and stop acting the numbskull. She tugged again and his eyes popped open. “Don’t move, Nadia. Just stay still. Until it passes.”
He fought his preternatural impulses. One bite would taste divine. It would sate the parched thirst he struggled to ignore.
“Nadia. You came to me.”
Oh, God! The tortured inflection of his tone curled around her, inexplicably tugging at her heart. The pain in his eyes captivated her. Something inside her snapped, it bloomed and turned her inside out. “Yes, Gunnar, I came. I’m your nurse and that means I’ll always be here for you.”
The muscles in his chest twitched and flexed as he pulled his hand from hers. He pressed his fingers to her collarbone and even though they trembled, he skated them along the column of her throat to her chin. Warmth assailed her as his calloused fingertips alighted on her bottom lip and ran back and forth. Her eyelids drooped; air became impossible to take in. “Gunnar?”
“Come here,” he demanded as his hand slid down and cupped her waist, tugging gently.
A sane part of her yelled that complying meant she’d be crossing into unprofessional behavior but she quickly shut that voice up and gave in to the direction of his strong hand—she’d do anything to ease his suffering. Depressing the button on the side rail, it clanked as it released, no longer impeding her from Gunnar’s embrace. She leaned close, pressed her cheek to the feverish skin of his forehead.
“Please.” His hand lashed around her wrist and tugged.
Why was she fighting? He needed her. Holding Gunnar would bring him solace and comfort. If it’d help him get through the worst of his healing, she had little cause not to. The reasons against doing anything so crazy shrank by the second.
He sucked air in over his teeth and strained against the pillow. The muscles in his chest quivered and the veins at his temple swelled taut. All the electrical equipment did that flickering thing again as if a power outage hovered moments away. With a guttural moan, he bent his knee, pushing one foot into the mattress. He cursed in Turkish and swallowed rigidly.
Don’t you dare crawl into bed with him like some mated female! Snuggling with Gunnar goes against every hospital regulation, not to mention the tenets of your people.
“Nadia.” Just her name but it was a distinct plea.
After shackling her conscience and muzzling its ethical diatribe, she hitched one leg on the bed. Sliding onto the small mattress, she settled on top of the blankets and propped on her side to give him as much room as possible.
“Let me hold you.” His pitch was low, gravelly. “Help me heal.”
“With your hands on me, I can endure anything. Touch me, Nadia.”
“Where?” she asked, breathless and provoked.
She slid her hand down his chest, feeling the hard muscle compress under her palm. His heart beat steadily. Deep breaths expanded his ribs. Warmth assailed her as she ran her fingers over the dips and valleys of his corded abdomen.
“Yes. More,” he encouraged.
“More, Gunnar. Give me more.” Her raw demand prodded him to let loose the caged beast roaring for freedom.
“I’ll give you what I can,” he promised.
And he meant it. That didn’t mean he’d take anything for himself. He couldn’t compromise her in any way. Even in his delirium, he had the honor not to do anything that would end with consequences.
He slid his hand under her top and shaped along her ribs, to the unyielding material of her bra. “Now, kjaere, let me feel you.”
Her eyelids fluttered and drooped. She leaned her head back to the wall exposing the elegant column of her throat. Cheeks flushed and whimpering with desire, she swallowed hard and implored, “Please, Gunnar. Don’t stop.”
A deep yearning crashed into him and Gunnar didn’t want to stop. “I won’t,” he reassured, the promise in his tone something he could do nothing to conceal.

★★★★★ Make sure you’ve set up dinner in the slow cooker, and sent your kids to play at someone else’s house because once you pick this up you won’t be putting it down! I felt like someone gave me a bar of really good Swiss chocolate and I both devoured it and savored it at the same time! Christa’s Kan Asma vampires are a new twist on an old tale. Gunnar and Nadia are engaging characters, with Gunnar’s loyalty and Nadia’s sweet nature making you root for their love over the cultural differences that threaten to divide them. With heart pounding action, HOT love scenes, and an enduring love story, you’ll be begging for more.

★★★★★I couldn’t stop reading Mated in Treason to find out if Gunnar and Nadia would ever find their happily ever after. Twilight was my introduction into the world of vampire fiction, but the vampires of the Kan Asma take it to a whole new level, the Volturi have nothing on them. Christa Paige does a great job of developing each character and creating their whole society. The book has a great deal of intrigue and passion from beginning to end. I highly recommend this one!
