Author: Christa Paige
Book: Enduring Bond, Book 1 of The Allies of the Kan Asma Vampires
Genre: Paranormal Romance (Vampires)
A-Fourteen has been wasting away in a dungeon for decades. Tortured for years in the name of science, he was stripped of everything—including his name. Scientists want to know the secret to the Kan Asma Vampires’ longevity, but there’s no way they’ll make him talk. They’ve tried everything, but he’d rather die than betray his people.
When they bring the frightened scientist into his cell, he is unimpressed with their newest tactic. The moment he tastes the blood of that unsuspecting woman, his entire world is turned upside down. Mariyah touches him with kindness and manages to shatter his resistance. Because of her, A-Fourteen feels more alive than he has in years. She promises to try and save him. But can he trust her?
Mariyah’s life takes a deadly turn when her blood becomes the key to the Lifespan Institute’s fountain of youth. When she is left to bleed out in the cell of a vampire prisoner, the last thing she expects is to survive. A-Fourteen shows her mercy by not killing her…and Mariyah ends up giving him her heart. If she fails him, he will die, and his blood will be on her hands, staining her soul.
Now she needs to protect herself while trying to rescue the love of her life. When she forms an alliance with the Kan Asma refugees, she plays a dangerous game of double agent. She knows the risks, and she also knows time is running out.
Mariyah will do anything to save A-Fourteen and set him free… even if it means sacrificing herself to give him a chance to live.

There in the corner stood a man. A tall, long-haired man. He crossed manacled arms over his chest, the linked chains dragging across the ground with the motion. Ratty, beige prisoner garb hung on his frame. Faded Cyrillic letters stating Property of Lifespan Institute had been stamped across the material. A thick beard didn’t hide the jut of his chin or the dusky press of his lips. In the dim light from the hallway, his eyes seemed to glow, sparkling in the iris like a moon reflecting over inky water.
One side of his mouth curved and his eyebrows slashed down, shuttering some of the glow in his stare. He inhaled, so slow, so drawn out, and she watched his chest expand. The sides of his shirt parted, and she saw a flash of burnished skin. Scratches and bruises marred his collarbone. He fingered a glossy metal link attached to the cuff on his left wrist. Blood stained his fingertips. Nails were missing. Just the thought of such barbarian treatment twisted her stomach.
He slipped into his memory, recalled the sensation of holding her. She fit perfectly against his chest. He craved having her atop him. Longed to draw her closer, to feed and so much more. Her natural perfume lingered on the pillow, teasing him with the scent of vanilla and honey. A cold sweat bloomed on his skin. Need tingled through his veins.
“In your surrender, your beauty surfaces. The strain in your features softens. Exhaustion fades. Your lips beckon, and I starve to taste them. You’re the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen, Mariyah Talisen, outwardly and inwardly. There’s no woman or female of my people who can compare because you treated me like a person. You said my name. Fed me from your hand. Gave me what little you have. For this small reprieve, you’ve won my devotion. My protection. My heart. I’ll give you what you need. If only to make sure you’re not harmed by Sovmen. At the very least, to keep seeing you. Because the hours we’re apart will be hell on earth.”
Mariyah Talisen would be his mate. He’d do everything in his power to make it so.
Because now that he’d tasted her passion, the sweet honey of her desire, and her rich, powerful blood, no other would do.
He’d kill for her. Or die trying.

★★★★★ This book was so good! The trials from each character were hard to read as they were written in such a way that you felt as if you were one of them. The lead was such a strong woman who by all means should have been weak the way her life was read- she endured so much and yet that endurance is what built the bond. While it isn’t possible for them to “cross species breading” they still had built a bond that genetics states isn’t something that can be done. The torture that he lived through was horrible to imagine although it doesn’t get as in depth as some other pieces, it is still enough for one to picture very clearly. I definitely recommend this book but of course it is best if you start at the beginning otherwise you might question some of the motives of the other side characters even though some of it is still described.

★★★★★ Enduring Bond was a surprisingly great story and very hard to put down. From the very start where Mariyah is thrown into a cell with a real Vampire to the tender moments they share when she feeds him her lunch, I was hooked. I had to keep reading to see if Ashe would be rescued and what would happen to their growing relationship. Christa Paige knows how to write a story that brings the reader right into the story. You feel every emotion and become part of the action. I highly recommend this story and look forward to reading more of her books.

★★★★★ If her last book was a piece of really good chocolate, this one is more like an incredible chocolate raspberry mousse cake! Something you’ll want to take your time and savor, but you won’t be able to stop until it’s all gone! The world-building that has gone into the Kan Asma vampires is incredible and her characters are vibrant and relatable. You’re going to want a Kan Asma male of your own!
